Council meetings were held in the Guildhall until November 1967. The administrative offices were in the Town Hall, which is today known as the Market Cross.

Cllr Willcox stands to present the report of the Housing Committee, saying that 21 houses were completed by private builders and 4 by the council. The Minister of Health wanted 4 council houses built for every one house built by private enterprise, and might ban further private building until that proportion was established.

Alderman F T Bright replies to the Mayor, Alderman Sewell, after the Mayor had reported on an address by Aneurin Bevan at the Housing Conference. Alderman Bright was saying that shortages were very real, and delays were not the fault of municipal authorities. "Pipes ordered last March are now needed to complete some of our houses, but they may not be available until next March."

Cllr W E Stevens urging the Chairman of Housing Committee to be less discouraging about housing progress. The Chairman had once said that he doubted if any of the council prefabs would be ready by Christmas, but six were now occupied. Cllr Willcox replied that for the sake of being encouraging, he hoped it would be sixty occupied by Christmas.

Cllr Mrs E C Wise, JP, one of two women councillors.Having argued in a previous debate in favour of shops retaining frontage privileges in the market, she now asked for quicker action to provide seating outside the Town Hall. She had been asking for them for months she said.

Mr H G Maltby, curator of Moyses Hall Museum, Mr R J Pitcher, Borough Treasurer, and a work experience law student, taking notes of the meeting.

Twelve members of the public attended this meeting. They were all provided with copies of the Agenda and Minutes.
