Chilton Brickworks, Chilton

Chilton Brickworks was probably the oldest of the three brickworks located at Chilton, on Gallows Hill or Waldringfield Road as it is usually known. It is separated from the California Brickworks by a number of allotments as shown on this map.

Edward Gibbons ran the Victoria Brickworks at Ballingdon from 1883 to 1888 as part of his large building and Brickmaking enterprise centred at Ipswich. In 1885 he added this Chilton Brickworks to his portfoloio.

This brickworks is now part of the Chilton Industrial Estate.
